His Majesty King Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifah of Bahrain (b. 28 January, 1950 at Riffa, Bahrain) is the current king of Bahrain. He succeeded his father, Isa bin Salman Al Khalifah, as Emir on 6 March, 1999. Bahrain officially upgraded from an emirate to a kingdom in 2002.
